Lindau on Lake Constance
Casino Hotels & Resorts is published in Lindau. On Lindau island, the harbour, old town, hotels and the Bavarian state casino are so close together that you can spend the evening on foot.

The island
Lindau's old town sits on an island in Lake Constance, linked to the mainland by the Seebrücke road bridge and a railway causeway. Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings stand close together, and much of the island is pedestrianised. Lindau lies where Germany, Austria and Switzerland meet.
The harbour
Two landmarks guard the harbour entrance: the six-metre Bavarian lion by Johann von Halbig, dated 1856, and the New Lighthouse, built 1853–1856 – the only lighthouse in Bavaria.

The casino
Spielbank Lindau stands on the lakeshore on Chelles-Allee, named after the French twin town. After the war Lindau was granted the licence on condition that 70% of the proceeds went to charity; the first building was a quickly built timber hall. Today's four-storey round building by Viennese architect Hans Lechner opened on 15 July 2000. Its large windows look across the lake to the Pfänder, Bregenz and Switzerland.
Since 2020 the ground floor has combined live tables and slots in the “Spiel-Arena”. Games include roulette, blackjack and poker. There is a restaurant and a bar with a lake view.

Getting there

Lindau has two stations. Lindau-Reutin on the mainland has been the long-distance stop since December 2020: Munich–Zurich trains stop only here, as do services to Vienna. Lindau-Insel is right by the harbour and served by regional trains, mainly along the north shore via Wasserburg and Friedrichshafen. City buses run from Reutin to the island; there is a “Spielbank” stop on Chelles-Allee.
By boat
From April to October, boats of the Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe, Vorarlberg Lines and the Historische Schifffahrt Bodensee with the paddle steamer “Hohentwiel” leave Lindau harbour for Bregenz, Wasserburg, Friedrichshafen, Meersburg, Mainau island and Konstanz. Few boats run in winter – please check timetables with the operators.
