Responsible play
Casinos are places for adults, and gambling can be addictive. This page collects what helps: before, during and when things get difficult.
Free advice
The helpline of the Federal Institute of Public Health (BIÖG, formerly BZgA) is free of charge. Advice is given in German:
0800 1 37 27 00
Monday to Thursday 10 am–10 pm, Friday to Sunday 10 am–6 pm. More: bioeg.de and check-dein-spiel.de.
Before you go
- Set a fixed budget and take only that money with you.
- Set a time at which you leave.
- Do not play to win back losses, and do not play after drinking.
Self-exclusion via OASIS
Anyone can exclude themselves from all casinos in Germany, for example directly at a casino. Self-exclusion lasts at least three months, one year if no period is given, and ends only on written request. Every casino entrance checks the OASIS register.
Warning signs
- You play longer or with more money than planned.
- You keep thinking about gambling outside the casino.
- You hide your gambling or borrow money for it.
If you recognise yourself here, call the helpline. Relatives can call too.
