What we mean

What a casino hotel is in Germany

Germany has no Las Vegas-style casino resorts. Casinos (Spielbanken) need a licence from the federal state, and there are about 70 of them nationwide. Many sit in spa towns, often inside the Kurhaus, with long-established hotels right next door. Hotel and casino are almost always separate businesses: a hotel room is not an entry ticket, and the casino is not booked through the hotel.

Same building

Hotel and casino share one building. You walk from the hotel corridor into the gaming room without stepping outside.

Same complex

Hotel and casino belong to one ensemble, such as a Kurhaus and its park hotel, with a few steps in between.

Round the corner

The casino is a few minutes' walk from the hotel. The time is an estimate (≈) explained on each hotel page.
